The Lalor Foundation |
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the deadlines? The trustees meet twice a year, in June and December to review concept papers. Concept applications received by November 15th will be considered for full proposal eligibility at the December meeting and applicants will be informed of the Foundation's decision by January 15. Concept applications received by May 15th will be considered for full
proposal eligibility at the June meeting and applicants will be informed of the
Foundation's decision by July 15.
Can I fax or e-mail my concept paper or proposal? We prefer courier, regular mail or hand delivery of your concept paper and/or
proposal. In rare instances we will accept a fax followed by hard copy for
concept papers only.
However, we are no longer accepting email submissions at this time. Overseas applicants using regular mail should send materials at least 45 days in advance or have a colleague in the U.S. mail them for you.
How many copies of concept paper or proposal are needed? Send an original and one copy of the concept application. Please send an original and at least one copy of the five-page proposal only. Do not
send copies of backup
materials.
Will the Foundation support indirect costs or administrative overhead? Not usually. You have a better chance of competing for scarce dollars if you allocate direct costs to the Anna Lalor Burdick grant. Can an organization submit two concept papers for consideration? In fairness to other organizations seeking support, we ask that organizations submit only one concept paper per round of funding.
Does the Foundation provide multi-year funding? Normally grants are awarded for one year only. Under special circumstances, renewals are considered, such as for projects which clearly require more than one year of support for effective implementation, or for projects which demonstrate outstanding results or promise during the first year. Applicants must re-apply through the competitive grants process each year. There is no advantage in requesting multi-year funding, because the Foundation does not make multi-year grants.
Will the Foundation support organizations that it has never heard of? Rarely. It is difficult to evaluate concept papers submitted from organizations totally unknown to us, particularly from organizations in the developing world about which it is difficult for the Foundation to obtain information. Applicants that are not known in and do not have connections with any charitable organization in the United States should provide references and printed materials that show the nature and functioning of the organization.
How many proposals get funded? The Foundation received over 200 concept applications during the
last round and requested 9 full proposals. Last year, our first year, we funded approximately
6 organizations. See list of our past grants.
